Intermediate Course · Class 4 of 6Google Ads: Search Campaigns That Pay for Themselves
⏱ 30 min read · 🃏 flashcards · 📝 8-question quiz · 🧪 interactive tool
Google Ads puts you at the top of search results the moment someone looks for what you sell. You pay per click (PPC), so the skill is paying only for clicks likely to become customers.
Core vocabulary
- Campaign → Ad group → Ads + Keywords — the account structure. Keep each ad group tightly themed (one topic per group).
- Match types — Broad (widest, needs care), Phrase "quotes" (query must contain the phrase meaning), Exact [brackets] (tightest control). Start with phrase + exact.
- Negative keywords — words you never want to pay for: add "free", "jobs", "salary" as negatives if you sell a paid course. Review the Search Terms report weekly and keep adding negatives — this is where wasted budget hides.
- Quality Score (1–10) — Google's rating of keyword ↔ ad ↔ landing page relevance. Higher score = lower cost per click for the same position.
- Conversion tracking — non-negotiable. Track form submissions/purchases, or you are flying blind.
Writing ads that get quality clicks
Put the keyword in a headline, lead with the strongest benefit, add proof (numbers, ratings), a clear CTA, and use assets (sitelinks, callouts) to occupy more space. Send the click to a dedicated landing page that matches the ad's promise — never the generic homepage.
A sane starting plan
- Start small (even ₹300–500/day), one campaign, 2–3 tight ad groups.
- Location + language targeting matched to your real customers.
- Bidding: start "Maximize clicks" with a CPC cap → switch to "Maximize conversions" after ~30+ conversions of data.
- Judge results by cost per conversion vs what a customer is worth — not by clicks or impressions.
