Reviewed October 17, 2026. A meeting that suddenly looks an hour late deserves a check before anyone rearranges their day. Start with its intended local time and organizer, not a blanket change to your calendar settings.

Which Canadian events need attention?

Google flags some events in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Northwest Territories time zones as potentially one hour late from November 1, 2026. This does not cover every Canadian event. October corrections cover single events and recurring series without future exceptions; Google will not shift already-corrected events again. Guests must RSVP again. Fix an unresolved event, not your whole calendar

On calendar.google.com, organizers or authorized calendar editors can open a flagged event. Choose “Move one hour earlier” if appropriate, or “Keep current time” if already correct. These controls are web-only. For recurring exceptions, preserve custom details first: Google says to open the next occurrence after November 1, move it earlier, select “This and following events,” then recreate customizations. Changes can be lost. Guests should contact the organizer. For Outlook-organized meetings, request a corrected invitation resent, not forwarded. Recheck room acceptance after shifting; rebooking can fail. Update mobile apps and operating systems if displays disagree. Full procedure: https://support.google.com/calendar/answer/18712272

What the October rollout means

The University of Alberta documented the problem on October 6. Its notice expects automatic corrections by October 31 and recommends letting that process run before cleaning up unresolved events. It also advises checking external calendar integrations for current time-zone definitions. This is the university’s rollout guidance, not a guarantee for every account or connected system. A practical review routine

For an important November appointment, write down the agreed date, local time and named time zone beside the organizer’s contact. Prioritize client calls, interviews and travel-dependent meetings. Keep a short record of what you checked and when, so another colleague does not repeat your work. If timing is still uncertain, get explicit confirmation before changing travel or staffing plans. Avoid sharing private meeting details in public troubleshooting forums.
